Beside the comun thing, i must say about this film that i didn´t liked, Well but that term is inacurate, the films about fantasy, witches, wizards are not my favorite, I´m not a fan, I´m a detractor os such films. I find this movie weak in the construction of the caracter of "Ofelia". The manufacter and the whole production is very very good. Fantastic, but the history by it self is not a good one (at least for me, sorry , I don´t want to make a discussion in here.).
But let me explain about this thing that I find weak, talking about the spanish civil war is putting the history in a place where the violence and dead are all around. The history could be placed in Poland in 1944 or somewhere else where the same thing happend, but in that places, the people does not speak spanish so would it be unreal. Even more for the magic themes that the movie is about.
But, like I said, the caracter of Ofelia is not authentic, she does not act or think as a child; disobey everything even the faun, sacrifice this "friends" of hers, the "fairys". In this situation is right to do the question: If she does not obey to ge real humans and neither the faun, in what thing does she belive? making the act of obey as a synonymus of belive.
